Newcastle Away
Our second trip to the Geordie shore, lead us to take on the mite of Newcastle. With two new signings, this season for Lancaster Men’s team, rookie goalie Kosta, and new
attackman Simon a.k.a Titch. The start of the 1st quarter and the boys come out in full force, with Tom and Steve in D giving the Newcastle attackmen major problems. Newman Kosta, giving a great first match in goal, warming up to being in goal, with every shot ripped by the opposition his confidence grew and he was stopping a lot of the shots coming his way. However with every new man, goals were sure to come and unfortunately two goals made it past him, but not lying down the Lancaster attack moved the ball around with pin point accuracy from Siddall to Pancho straight to Canadian Ryan to skin 2 defenders and at an impossible angle to bring one back for Lancaster.
Deep into the second quarter, we managed to hold the Geordies at 2-1 but after some well executed moves the opposition took the lead making it 10-1. Despite this, Kosta’s resolve remained strong and he used every part of his body to stop the barrage of shots raining down on him, leaving him with a number of bruises to nurse on the bus journey home.
Before this quarter ended, after some excellent space making and running by social sec Pancho, he claims his first goal of the season after being cruelly denied by the post in the York game. Midway through the 3rd quarter, Manny was left wide open right in front of goal and a dodgy pass from Dick Biscuit at X, Manny added another goal to his tally.
Start of the 4th quarter and it was time for Lax Fresher Titch to but on his pads and grab a stick and be baptized by fire, despite this also being his first competitive game, he but in a good shift making some excellent ground balls, stick checks and showing us what he has in store for the team for the games to come.
Despite the goals scored by our North American and Welsh contingent, we could not overcome the score line and left with a respectable score of 18-3, after much discussion between the lads we decided that this score did not fully reflect the game.
Scorers – Canadian Ryan (1), Pancho (1), Manny (1)
MoM – Kosta for a great first shift as goalie, making and some excellent saves and jumping feet first into a new challenge
DoD - Dick Biscuit, despite a physical game, he managed to take 2 of his own players out and head checking Kyle and almost getting run over after the game and a few other things

York Away
to the enemy, spirits high and out for blood.
Faceoff came and battle commenced, for the first quarter things stayed pretty static in terms of action in the goal area, both teams circling each other like boxers in the ring. We managed to maintain possession and thanks to a strong defense line in the guise of Tom, Dave, Si and of course our ever reliable goalie, Granddad we keep York from scoring. Steve in the midfield took shots trying to make things happen, Tom recovering after two beastly takedowns and making every effort to recover the ball. Siddall stepped into the role LSM, big shoes to fill considering the previous player to don them, but he showed his tenacity and skill and did the job entrusted to him.
Although Luke was our saving grace it could not last, York had opened the scoring and taken the lead. Blajay, matching the pace of Usian Bolt, in the midfield and covering a whole lot of ground. However, Canadian Ryan dug deep and skinned 4 defenders to bring us level and putting Lancaster on the score sheet.
The 2nd quarter did not ease up on the intensity, with the score 2-1 to York, we were determined not to let it get bigger. We had a few technical difficulties, Canadian Ryan sending the ball the International Space station, Manny thinking he was Chris Ashton and swan diving. Blajay, stepped up to mark and scored his first goal of the season bringing the score level. To paraphrase 300, “we even allowed ourselves to hope for more then glory, such mad hope, but there it is against Yorks endless hoards, against all odds, we can do it, we can hold the hot gates”. Luke was steel trap with over 26 saves, Manny backing up every tackle and every man giving their last full measure of devotion.
Things were not to last, York started to pull away making the score 5-2, but Captain Simon hadn’t had his final say, making the York attack bow at his feet with beastly takedowns and stick checks, and Pancho going full Jedi on them. Our third and fourth goal came in the form of no other then resident goal scorer, Canadian Ryan, making that 4 hat-tricks and 15 goals in 3 games. However as we responded with goals so did York managing to extend their lead to 8-4, but we still had the afterburners, and El Presidente Connor sacked 2 York middies, giving them something to remember him by. Manny was a faceoff and ground ball virtuoso, letting naught a ball slip through his grips, and at points keeping the ball even when he lost his stick. Steve managed to bring one back for Lancaster, this spurring on everyone to not give up. Liam gave a great final quarter, the defense not giving up once and Tom continuing to put in the stick checks. Unfortunately, the dream was just out of reach, even with Baljay getting a second goal for his tally and after causing a 2 man pile up and scoring yet again, Canadian Ryan and the team could not tackle the beast and claim a victory. Leaving the final score at 10-7 to York, the boys felt proud of their performance and already looking forward the reverse fixture.
Scorers – Canadian Ryan (4), Blajay (2), Steve (1)
MoM - El Presidente Connor for his great shift and numerous take downs and never giving up
DoD - Captain Simon for kicking the ball from behind the goal, directly to a York player giving him a easy shot and scoring

I believe it was Shakespeare who “Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more”. Today was our match against our rivals in city and sport York. We travelled
Sheffield Home
Our first home game of the season was even more anticipated then the first game of the season. With a good home crowd spurring the lads on battle commenced. It was a slow start to the game, like 2 titans
locked in an epic battle. With good movement and defense from Lancaster, in the form of D man Tom Green with a mammoth take down on the Sheffield attack, showing that Lancaster meant business. Not long before the end of the 1st quarter, Canadian Ryan opened the score to make it 1-0.
In the 2nd quarter, the temperature was kicked up a level, with Sheffield fighting back and showing that we could not rest on our laurels by briefly taking the lead to 4-3, even after Canadian Ryan had scored 2 more goals to bag his 2nd hatrick of the season. Even though the opposition was leading, Luke was guarding his goal like Cerberus guarding the gates of the underworld for Hades, he was giving it his all.
Things started to get close for the lads, with Sheffield never more then 2 goals away from us, we had to make every shot count, and that is exactly what we did, and it comes as no surprise that the next 4 goals came from beautiful play from Canadian Ryan, to bring the score to 7-4. His supporting ensemble doing everything to put him in the scoring line. Motivated by the goals being netted, Siddall cut the Sheffield defense to pieces and scored his 1st goal of the season. Giving the team a comfortable lead.
However, as we moved into the final quarter it was clear that Sheffield were not going to go down with out a fight and closed the gap to make it 8-7. Things were starting to get tense. Luke giving us a heart attack by leaving an open goal but he recovered the ball gracefully and play continued. With time counting down, the attack moved the ball superbly, culminating in a 2nd goal for Siddall, assisted by Biscuit (much to the relief of Siddall knowing he had overtaken Biscuit in goals scored).
Canadian Ryan capped of the end of the game by taking Lancaster into double figures and scoring his 8th goal, bring is tally 12 in 2 games. The boys gave Captain Simon, his 1st win of the season and the team their first of many home wins to come.
It was clear that in this match, the team had gelled we had started to play off each other, we were more talkative, in essence we played more like a team.
Scorers – Canadian Ryan (8), Siddall (2)
MoM – Canadian Ryan for his amazing game, his 8 goals and continued effort.
DoD – Lincoln for missing a vital ground ball, numerous passes his penalty.

Northumbria Away
...............................
Our 1st game of the season and a new league, where we knew our skill would be tested. Much like the 300 Spartans facing down the might of the Persian
Empire, we knew this was not going to be easy. Travelling to their turf only made our resolve that much more eager to win.
Despite in the opening quarter, going down 6-1 Lancaster were not disheartened, we knew this league was going to be a tough one, we were going to have to fight tooth and nail for every goal. Our first goal from a daring run by new man Steve, running from deep within our territory to bury the ball into the enemy’s net, this filled our sails with a new wind. Half-time whistle blew, we were still trailing but Canadian Ryan had made the score sheet with a superb shot from close range. Meanwhile the defense was giving it there all and linking well together, Dave and Simon emphatically using every skill in the repertoire to deny Northumbria further goals.
With a new burst of energy, Lancaster knew what had to be done, with a tactical change to the faceoff man, new American blood Manny did what was needed and were starting to win the ball and gel as a team, fast breaks and good passing from the midfield led to Lancaster’s third goal, from our very own Dick Biscuit (much to the surprise of the whole team and a few players stunned, he managed this feat). Midway through the 4th and final quarter Lancaster continued to rain fire on the Northumbrian goalie with Canadian Ryan securing the first hatrick of the season, Manny scoring two awesome goals and Kyle obtaining a goal for his hard work. Leaving the final score to be 15-8, but despite this loss the bus ride home was like we had won.
There can be no fault in the performance of the defense, with new man from Norway, Marius, ditching skates for cleats he showed us that every sportsman can be truly versatile, when he puts his mind to it, with great stick checks and picking up the ground balls. With more training and more energy, despite starting with a loss Lancaster can have a hell of a good season.
Scorers – Canadian Ryan (3), Manny (2), McVitty (1), Kyle (1), Steve (1)
MoM –Manny for his all round performance and 2 awesome goals.
DoD – Pancho went to Hustle night before game and injured himself.
